Evangelism

05/11/2020

The dictionary definition of evangelism is 'the spreading of the Christian gospel by public preaching or personal witness.' What does that mean? It means sharing the good news by preaching in the open or talking personally with someone you know. Jesus calls us to evangelize. It can be hard, though. Some people get uncomfortable talking about religions. Some people get squirmy talking about Jesus. Some people get mad, and you can even lose their friendship.

I read the book Honest Evangelism by Rico Tice, and it was very helpful. It outlined why many Christians do not evangelize, how to talk to other about Christianity, and how to answer questions about evangelism. I highly recommend Honest Evangelism. Rico Tice tells us what to talk about. He recommends Identity, Mission, and Call. Identity: Jesus is the Son of God made human that has powers over all the Earth. Mission: Jesus came to forgive our sins and pay the penalty for them even though we did not deserve it. Call: Jesus calls us to embark on a dangerous journey on a narrow path. But when we walk that path and do not stray, we will receive life. A life better than one we can even imagine. As Rico Tice says, "Christ's call to follow him as our King is a call to come, and die... and live."
